This didn't start in a lab.

It started with people.

Built from lived experience, shaped through live prototyping, proven in real communities.

The Common Room is created by Lifework Lab, a social innovation studio founded by Dr Jonathan Collie.

We have worked with thousands of people of all ages, life stages and backgrounds - listening deeply to their stories, challenges and aspirations.

From this work emerged The Common Room and the New Social Contract: practical, place-based models built on purpose, interdependence and trust.

We don’t design from theory alone. We build with people - creating spaces, relationships and momentum that help individuals thrive and systems work better.

We are deeply grateful to all those who have shared their journeys with us. Every story, insight and contribution has shaped The Common Room into a living, evolving reflection of the needs, hopes and strengths of the communities we serve.

With heartfelt appreciation, we recognise the wisdom, creativity and courage of the many designers, innovators and changemakers who have contributed over the past decade - fueling this growing movement for connection, confidence and collective impact.
